| Foundation
course
Our foundation course is specially designed for people new to Iyengar Yoga. It provides a solid grounding in the principles and basic poses of Iyengar yoga as taught in Beginners classes at the Institute. We recognise that the timings of the Foundation Courses may not suit everyone and students are welcome to attend any of our drop in Beginners classes.
Each course comprises 6 weekly lessons on Monday
evenings, Wednesday evenings or Saturday afternoons. The cost
of the course is £60 which includes a 3 month membership
plus 2 free Beginners classes.

Taster classes
We regularly offer a free class for people who
want their first taste of Iyengar yoga. Usually these classes
are held a week before the start of a foundation course so students
can then go onto book on to a course to continue their practise
of Iyengar yoga.

Attending a class - some
pointers

You should have an empty stomach for your yoga class, so
please leave at least three hours after a main meal or two
hours after a snack.

Clothing should not restrict your movement. Most people wear
shorts or leggings and a t-shirt.

Yoga is always practised with bare feet. Please leave your
shoes in the lobby at the Institute.

If you are menstruating, please consult the teacher before
the class.

Classes are limited to 35 people in
the larger studio and to 20 in the smaller studio.

Your state
of health

All members are expected to complete a health declaration
form.

Mainstream yoga classes are not suitable for people with
certain medical conditions such as high blood pressure, heart
disease or other heart problems, epilepsy, cancer or benign
tumours, diabetes, Meniere's disease, detached retina, AIDS,
MS and ME.

If you have recently had an operation, please inform Iyengar
Institute staff and your teacher before starting class.
