
Only certified teachers teach genuine Iyengar yoga. All of ours hold the Iyengar Yoga Teachers Certification Mark, a sign of excellence, clarity and depth of understanding. To use this logo, they have to be properly trained and maintain their development.
Richard has been practising Iyengar yoga since 1975 and teaching since 1977.He has attended classes at RIMYI, Pune on 17 visits, and is a Senior Intermediate teacher.
He and his wife, Kirsten, are the directors of the Bath Iyengar Yoga Centre. He is a moderator and assessor for the IYA(UK).
Juliet had a successful career as a professional dancer before starting yoga at the Institute in 1988.
She has taught here continuously since 1994. As part of ongoing development, she has made several trips to Pune to study with the Iyengars and also taken part in many workshops in the UK with visiting international teachers.
Marco was born in Italy, but learned yoga in London. He has been practising since 1993 and teaching since 1998.
He holds a Junior Intermediate certificate and has visited Pune 4 times. He is a member of the Institute’s Teaching Committee.
Penny is one of seven of the Most Senior Leading Teachers of the UK, a special designation awarded to them by B.K.S. Iyengar in 2009.
She started teaching herself yoga from a book and first met B.K.S. Iyengar in 1971 when he was teaching in London. As his direct student, she visits Pune yearly. She has been teaching since 1974. She teaches the Teachers’ Class, General and Beginners classes and runs the Senior Intermediate workshops at the Institute.
She was a founder member of the Institute and is currently a trustee and Chair of the Teaching Committee. For many years she was actively involved in the national Teachers’ Association and currently sits on the Ethics Committee and Assessment & Training Committee of the IYA(UK).
Rosemary has taught since 1999 and holds the Junior Intermediate certificate. Immediately after qualifying, she travelled to Pune to spend three months studying with the Iyengar family. She returns regularly to continue her studies with Geeta Iyengar. As well as visiting Pune, she has also studied with Geeta on visits to London in 2002 and 2009, and on intensives in South Africa and Australia.
She has taught various classes at the Institute and continues to enjoy disseminating the intelligence of the Iyengar method.
Joyce started Iyengar yoga 30 years ago at the Institute. She is now in her 70s and enjoying her yoga life which includes teaching, going to classes and her own practice. This keeps her fit and healthy and very happy.
With a teaching style that is at once energetic and thoughtful, Ruth has been teaching Foundation and Beginners classes at the Institute for 8 years. In total, she has been practising yoga for 20 years and teaching for 9. Having trained at the Institute, she is currently part-way through the Junior Intermediate teaching certificate.
Ofra was born and raised on a kibbutz in Israel. She was a school teacher for many years and on coming to London in 1988 she worked in aviation. She took her first yoga classes when she was 40.
After years of active sport and running, she realised that pounding the streets every day was harming her body and quickly discovered a passion for yoga. She studied with Silvia Prescott and commenced her teacher training under her supervision.
She has been to Pune many times to study with the Iyengar family. She has been teaching for 12 years and believes that yoga can enhance the life of everyone and can be started at any age. She holds the Junior Intermediate certificate.
Johanna has practised Iyengar yoga since 1980 and taught since 1984. Her teaching is deeply rooted in the Iyengar tradition and her studies with the Iyengar family.
She has made numerous visits to Pune, studying under the guidance of the Iyengars, where she keeps her knowledge up-to-date and through studying with other senior teachers.
She lived and taught for many years in France. She has taught at the Institute since 2000 and has served as a trustee and Chair of the Teaching Committee.
She is an experienced teacher and enjoys teaching her Pregnancy, General and Intermediate classes.
Megan was a freelance radio reporter for the BBC when she started practising Iyengar yoga in 1994.
In 1999 she qualified and started teaching full-time. In August 2010 she went to India to study with the Iyengar family at the Institute in Pune. She holds a Junior Intermediate level 2 certificate.
Judy has been practising yoga since 1989, when she was still a solicitor, and teaching since 1995. She holds a Junior Intermediate certificate. She practises yoga to be well, and her teaching style is marked by clarity, simplicity and humour. She is one of the Institute’s trustees and a member of the Teaching Committee. She has visited Pune twice.
She is a member of the IYA(UK)'s Assesements & Training Committee.
Aubrey was introduced to Iyengar yoga in 1989 in South Africa. He has been teaching since 2002 and holds a Junior Intermediate Level 2 certificate. For the past 18 years, since moving to London, he has been attending regular classes and developing his own practice.

An Institute teacher since 1989, Stuart began his Iyengar yoga practice in 1978. He is a Junior Intermediate teacher and has visited Pune on four occasions for study with the Iyengar family. He has taught a variety of classes from Beginners to Intermediate level.
A Chartered Physiotherapist since 2003, Stuart complements his yoga teaching by working in health care
Alaric has been teaching at the Maida Vale Institute since 1991 and has been practising yoga since 1983. He has attended classes in Pune and holds the Senior Intermediate certificate.
Barbara Norvell is a Junior Intermediate teacher who has a special interest in teaching pregnancy classes. She continues to develop her own practice by regularly attending workshops with senior teachers and visiting the Iyengar Institute in Pune. She has been teaching since 1999 and her teaching style combines warmth, humour and clear instruction.
Korinna has been practising Iyengar yoga since 1983 and started teaching at the Institute in 1995. She is a Junior Intermediate teacher and is especially interested in remedial yoga as well as teaching children and teenagers. She visits the Institute in Pune regularly. After having held the teaching portfolio as one of the Institute’s trustees for many years, she is currently the editor of Dipika, the Institute’s magazine.
Kate started her yoga practice with a foundation course at the Institute in 1996, where she also undertook her teacher training.
She gave up her career in graphic design to pursue her passion for her yoga practice and to teach yoga. She has visited Pune twice to study with the Iyengar family and continues to study with senior Iyengar yoga teachers in the UK and India.
Stephen has been teaching at the Institute since 1986. He has taught classes ranging from Beginners to Intermediate, as well as Pranayama and Remedial. He currently teaches Intermediate classes and runs the Introductory Teacher Training course with Sallie Sullivan. He has been to the Institute in Pune twice.
Amparo was born in Bogota, Colombia and came to Britain in 1974. She started practising Iyengar yoga in the 1980s and has been teaching since 1998. She has visited Pune and attended conventions taught by the Iyengars in Germany, Russia and the UK. She holds the Junior Intermediate certificate.
Judy has been teaching for over 20 years at the Institute where she teaches General and and Remedial classes. She regularly visits Pune and often attends workshops with visiting senior teachers. Judy is author of the book "Iyengar Yoga: Classic Yoga Postures for Mind, Body & Spirit" which was published in 2004.
Patsy has been practising Iyengar yoga since 1979 and teaching since 1993. She holds a Junior Intermediate certificate and has been to Pune four times. She was a member of the Institute’s Board of Trustees and Teaching Committee for 3 years. She has a particular interest in remedial work.
Sallie started practising Iyengar yoga in 1980. She completed her Introductory teacher training with Joan Oliver in Devon in 1986 and in 2004 completed Senior Intermediate training with Jeanne Maslen. She has been 9 times to Pune and has spent a total of 12 months learning at RIMYI.
Sallie runs the Introductory Teacher Training course at the Institute with Stephen Richardson. She is the senior teacher of the Institute of Iyengar Yoga Sussex.
Elisabeth started yoga and teacher training with Silvia Prescott in 1978. Her first yoga intensive was in Pune in 1981, taught by B.K.S. Iyengar. Since receiving her Junior Intermediate certificate in 1992, she has been teaching General, 60+ and Remedial classes at Maida Vale. Her own learning continues, including a month every second year at the Institute in Pune.
