Abhyasa refers to practice and Diksha to initiation. This cycle will point towards an intuition that practice is the initiation of “what is”, generating 7 guardians. According to the Gheranda Samhita the 7 guardians are: Sodhana (purification), Drdhata (strength), Sthairyam (steadiness), Dhairyam (composure), Laghavam (lightness), Pratyaksam (realisation) and Nirliptam (staying with what is). On a practical level we will see how to ritualise the practice of asana with the clarity of direction, clarity of action, clarity of breath and clarity of source. Then each postures becomes a living yantra and an offering to consciousness.
This cycle of practice is for those practitioners/teachers who have a very firm foundation of Iyengar Yoga. Practitioners should be able to sustain a 10 minutes Sirsasana, 10 minutes Sarvangasana plus Urdhva Dhanurasana in the space and from the floor.
January cycle: Viparita Karani Mudra - Pranagnihotra (last session
in the cycle)
The sacrifice of the breath. An in depth practice and exploration
of pranayama.
Please note that Beginners Yoga Days require at least 3 months' regular Iyengar yoga practice. This ensures that the group of students have had enough Iyengar yoga experience to know some of the postures and to be familiar with the equipment. If you have a health problem or are unsure if the day is suitable, you should discuss this with your regular teacher or contact the office.
